I'm a dancer and choreographer devoted to performance that is exalted and intimate, to falling and being caught, to fitting large frames to ordinary breaths. Currently based in Austin, I always crave the dusty simplicity of my hometown of Albuquerque. Right now, I perform on a freelance basis in projects in and around Austin, and have performed nationwide with Chaddick Dance Theatre, Ballet Repertory Theatre of New Mexico, the Angelo Dance Project, Blackbird Dance, and Sparrow Dance Productions. I've created original works for Ballet Reportory Theatre of New Mexico, Austin Contemporary Dance Theatre, The Austin City Ballet, The Georgetown Palace Theatre, and The Dance Project. I studied Dance Performance at Southern Methodist University, where I worked with wonderful teachers and choreographers and discovered upon receipt of my BFA that I still knew next to nothing about the kind of dance I wanted to make. I now spend most of my time learning how to make imaginary things become real, on stages and cameras, in parks and in living rooms. I love to create movement vocabulary which is completely dependent upon the world that contains it, real or imagined. I often find that my greatest artistic pleasure lies in working collaboratively, combining mediums of performance art, and opening new doors through which to communicate. I present my own projects as Devon Adams Dance.
